I’m a contemporary art advisor dedicated to helping collectors via a personalized approach, understanding different points of view, tastes, and budgets. Building a collection is a highly individual matter, and can often require a lot of education, experience, and patience to find just the right artwork.
I’ve been working in the art world since 1994, back when I was 18 and pursuing a Master’s degree from New York University. Initially serving as manager of Stux Gallery, which was known for discovering Mike & Doug Starn, Andres Serrano, and Vik Muniz, I eventually became director with a new group of artists including Inka Essenhigh, Su-en Wong, and Jay Davis. By 2002, I left the gallery world to open my own business as a private art dealer and advisor, operating out of my loft in downtown Manhattan.
I mainly specialize in contemporary painting, photography, drawing, and sculpture and find work for collectors from a variety of sources: from the galleries that represent the artists, through private offerings on the secondary market, auction houses, art fairs, or sometimes from the artists themselves if they happen to be in-between gallery representation.
Being a confident collector requires a wealth of knowledge, from the historical context of works, to current events and trends, museum and gallery shows, auction results, and the latest publications. One of the most enjoyable parts about being an advisor is sharing this information and discussing ideas in order to help others make informed, intelligent decisions. I’m always pleased and proud to assist in this capacity, even long after an artwork is acquired.
